Every figure is sourced from our 2026 China trip-cost guide — this calculator is the interactive layer on top of it, not a separate set of numbers. It returns a planning range, not a quote.

FAQ

Does this calculator include international flights?
Yes, if you keep the flight toggle on — our cost guide puts a round-trip from the US/EU at roughly $1,000 per person. Turn it off for a land-only figure (useful if you are already in Asia).
Why are tier-2 cities so much cheaper?
Our China budget guide's city-tier table puts Chengdu, Xi'an and Chongqing at 0.60–0.70× the Beijing baseline for the same comfort level. The calculator applies that published multiplier to the per-style daily figure.
Is the number an exact quote?
No — it is a planning range built from the published per-style and per-tier figures in our China trip-cost guide. For the full per-category breakdown, the 14-day worked example and the Japan / Thailand / Vietnam comparison, read the guide.

Plan around the budget

Method. Per-style daily figures, the city-tier “cost vs Beijing baseline” multipliers, the ~$1,000 US/EU round-trip flight, and the Yangtze-cruise / Tibet add-on ranges are taken verbatim from our China trip-cost guide. The calculator composes them; it does not introduce new numbers. Style figures are a Beijing / tier-1 baseline — tier-2/3 trips run cheaper per day per the guide’s tier table. Output is a planning range. Last reviewed 2026-05-20.
