Pazhou Ferry Terminal: HK airport to the Canton Fair (2026)

No — not as of 14 October 2026. The terminal announced on 10 August 2026 that every sailing would stop from 1 September 2026 for annual vessel maintenance, with the restart date to be announced separately, and we found no restart announcement when we checked. The suspension covers both the Hong Kong airport route and the city route from the China Ferry Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui. Klook was still selling airport sailings for October when we looked, which tells you what is on sale, not that the boat sails. For the Canton Fair, plan on the high-speed train from West Kowloon to Guangzhou South and then the metro, and treat the ferry as an upgrade if it reopens before your trip.

Not the airport one. The SkyPier ferry operates airside at Hong Kong International Airport, past immigration, and is restricted to transfer passengers — people connecting to or from a flight. If you are already in Hong Kong, or spending a night there first, you cannot board it. What you can do instead: the same operator runs a Pazhou service from the China Ferry Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui, which is a normal city-centre departure anyone can use (suspended along with every other Pazhou sailing since 1 September 2026); or take the high-speed train from Hong Kong West Kowloon, which is faster and far more frequent. This distinction catches people out because most English pages describe 'the Hong Kong to Guangzhou ferry' as one thing when the airside and city services have completely different rules.

Right now it does not run: every Pazhou sailing has been suspended since 1 September 2026 for vessel maintenance. When it does, the crossing itself is about two hours. There are roughly nine sailings a day across the route — reported as four departures and five arrivals — so this is a thin timetable by the standards of the rail alternatives, and it is the main planning constraint. A route was added on 1 July, so the current pattern may differ from older guides; check the operator's published schedule for your date rather than trusting a timetable copied from a blog. Ticket checking closes 30 minutes before departure, and the check-in desk at SkyPier operates roughly 09:00-18:30 with the last sailing of the day in the afternoon.

At least 90 minutes before departure if you are checking in at Pazhou, and reports put the practical window at 90-120 minutes. If your airline is one of those that only accepts check-in at Hong Kong's SkyPier rather than at Pazhou, you need to arrive around 180 minutes ahead instead — a big difference, and worth confirming against your specific carrier before you plan the day. Ticket checking stops 30 minutes before departure regardless. The check-in counter at Pazhou is on the second floor of the departure hall.

On a direct flight, yes — that is the main advantage of the service over doing the journey yourself. Only passengers on a direct flight with an airline that offers it can check bags through at Pazhou; if your itinerary connects again after Hong Kong, the bags are checked through at SkyPier instead. When it does apply, you check in at Pazhou, your bags are tagged through to your final destination, and you go straight to the SkyPier at Hong Kong airport without collecting and re-checking them. You also skip Hong Kong immigration entirely, because you never formally enter Hong Kong. That combination is what makes a two-hour boat competitive with a faster train: the train wins on the water, the ferry wins on everything that happens at either end.

It is very close. The terminal is at No. 499 Yuejiang Middle Road and the fair complex is at No. 382 on the same road — around 800 metres apart in a straight line. A taxi costs about ¥11 and takes roughly 7 minutes, because the road route is about 3 km thanks to the one-way system rather than the direct line. Walking is realistic if you are travelling light. The terminal is also about a 410-metre walk from Pazhou metro station Exit E, putting you on Line 8 and Line 11 for the rest of the city. Only carriers that have joined Hong Kong airport's Sea-Air Intermodal Transport Service. This is a real gate, not a formality: the ferry ticket is sold against your flight, so if your airline is not part of the scheme the through-checked-baggage product cannot be issued for your journey. The operator and the booking platforms publish an airline list — check yours before you build an itinerary around the boat. If your carrier is not on it, the practical alternatives are the high-speed train via West Kowloon, a cross-border coach, or simply flying into Guangzhou Baiyun instead.

You can lose most of a day, so build slack. In March 2026 an early-morning SkyPier sailing to Pazhou was cancelled and rescheduled roughly eight hours later, which stretched affected passengers' transit from about two hours to nearly ten. With only around nine sailings a day, there is very little slack in the system when a boat is pulled for weather, maintenance or crew reasons. Treat the ferry as a good option when your connection has hours to spare, and as a bad option when it does not — on a tight day the high-speed train from West Kowloon is the more robust choice because it runs many times an hour.

On Klook on 6 October 2026, the one-way ticket was ¥490 from Pazhou to the airport and ¥470 from the airport to Pazhou in the standard cabin, with first class at ¥590; children aged 1 to 4 pay a child fare and under-1s travel free with an adult. The listing has over a thousand bookings. Those prices were on sale during the suspension, so they tell you what the ticket costs, not that a sailing will run.
